What is A Transgender?

People who identify as transgender or transsexual are usually people who are born with typical male or female anatomies but feel as though they’ve been born into the wrong body. They have many different ways of expressing this some change their clothing, hair, and name. Some ask others to change the way you address them like using he or her. Some even go all the way as to altering their bodies using hormones or surgery to alter how they look and feel. Its a lot more common than most people think. A recent study was done by William's institute which found that about 1.4 million in this country and about an average of about 100000 per state.

What Are Transgender Bathrooms(Gender Neutral Bathrooms)?

Simply put is a bathroom than ANYONE can use no matter what gender you are or feel you are. These type of bathrooms vary in appearance to being a bathroom you can lock and occupy for yourself until your done or a bathroom with multiple stalls where anyone can enter and you're free of judgment because your with people who have accepted the idea.

Pros/Benefits
  • People who are uncomfortable in men’s or women’s rooms for many reasons; for example, people who are not women or men and/or people who are gender nonconforming
  • Parents/caregivers whose children are a different gender from them
  • People with caregivers or personal attendants who are a different gender from them
Cons

None

Trumps Wrong doings:
The Trump administration withdrew Obama-era protections for transgender students in public schools that let them use bathrooms and facilities corresponding with their gender identity. What seemed to be really good decision and convenience for all people was taken away. The steps that were taken by our government the trump administration is a step backward and an unnecessary one. They sent out a letter called  "Dear Colleague"  rescinding the guidance without offering a replacement.

As a strong advocate for freedom and peace, it angered me knowing people could just stand by and let this happen. But what really struck me is to why so I conducted a peaceful survey which got me some surprising results. My first survey form looked like this:

First Survey

It was a good research and test idea but filled with flaws but gave me useful information and one key hint as to why people let this happen, don't care for it and actually never wanted it to happen.

People Don't Know What This Bathroom Actually Is and Who Can Use It

e

First Survey Within City Much Older Participants Average was age 37 and 20 People were Surveyed

All College Students Surveyed Average age 24

There's a lot of things wrong with The Trumps New Bill and for starters the calling the Bathroom A transgender bathroom instead of a nonsexualized Bathroom it gives it a bad name and confuses people.

Based on my results from my tests done later one i got new interesting results as well it seems that the younger generation is more comfortable that the older where they see it as wrong and promoting the youth to be LGBT pushing them in that direction. While there is nothing wrong with the LGBT community we live in a world where not everyone is comfortable with them which is exactly why this action was taken and was allowed to happen.

Although it seems like the Bill is unfair its not all that bad because schools aren't forced to get rid of them there are places that still have them and make people feel comfortable and happy for example a very popular Buzzfeed Article highlighting some kids having fun
 in a Gender Neutral Bathroom.

In order to help me with my website and the way I present this information to others I would really appreciate it if you took the time and did my online survey to help collect information.Thank You!!

Final post- the Disney Empire

For my semester project I will be talking and presenting how Disney has become an unstoppable media conglomerate. I will be raising awareness to how Disney has basically become an empire of companies, and how they are controlling what we watch and what type of information we can consume. In my presentation I will be showing a powerpoint with charts that study the growing Disney empire. I will also be creating posters that show the companies that Disney owns and I will post them around the school.

I am making this project because everybody watches TV and are on media 24/7, so they should be aware of who is controlling the content that they watch. Because 3 companies own 90% of the media industry the information that is shown to us becomes more biased and one-sided, so it should be a concern to everybody who watches TV and those who are on media.

Final Project: Health Care as a universal right

Health Care is something many consider a privilege today.  That is due to the high costs of coverage, low income for certain families therefore, not everyone has it.  And being able to see a doctor if you are feeling sick or are injured is so necessary...but who wants to pay ridiculous medical bills because they do not have health insurance to cover those bills.  Other countries exercise the right of universal health care, and if the United States is so advanced compared to other countries why do we not utilize a universal health care life?

I found 2 websites that "rant" about this topic also, while one of them seems to explain why it would not be rational which puts things into perspective in a way.

Health care rant: Why some people are more equal than others in countries with universal health care

The first Universal Health Care rant.

My main belief is that if I can go see a doctor because I feel like I have a temperature, it is my right to  be able to do that therefore, any one should be able to do that...if this is such a free country.

If Donald Trump can spend money in places where money does not necessarily need to be spent, we can put more money into health care to make it either universal or at least more affordable for those who do not have it.

Final Project - Cosplay Positive Body Image

There is a lot of issues with negative body image in general but it seems to come out in the open more when it comes to cosplay. In social media cosplayers fall victim to negative comments on their photos and so my project is about spreading awareness on positive body image for all kinda of cosplayers.

I started with making a public post on Facebook groups, Tumblr, and other forms of social media reaching out to fellow cosplayers for the project. Here's the post with instructions:

Signs for this weekends event
"I'm basically making a project for my class to support Cosplay Positivity for all cosplayers. So you'll be showing support for positive Body Image, respect for others, cosplaying who you love regardless, etc.
I've made characters to represent this movement because I plan to make this into a page where I also post motivational comics with the characters made.
You DON'T HAVE to be in cosplay to take photos with my signs. You can take photos without cosplay just to show your support for the project.
I have a support Instagram account where I'll be posting photos that people take with my signs Here. Please give it a follow. https://www.instagram.com/becospositive/
I made a Tumblr Blog where cosplayers can also submit photos here. https://becospositive.tumblr.com/
So if you have photos of you in cosplay and also want to show your support for cosplay positivity! If you don't have a Tumblr/ Instagram account then you can send me photos and I'll upload them just give me the proper information. (Name, Character, Series, Photographer, Etc.)"

I have made signs and graphics for cosplayers to take part in the project online if they wanted to and the results of my project are posted on my Instagram account. My tumblr blog is a blog where I submit photos and repost other cosplayers photos along with posts regarding positive cosplay image. It's just a way to help cosplayers see the good side of cosplay and help those who have been cyber bullied.

Final project: Cosmetic Surgery

I wanted to find out if women who had procedures done did them because they wanted them for themselves or were they feeling pressured.
With the creation of the wordpress blog, I have published several articles about women and Cosmetic surgery. my first posting simply defines the words i am going to be using, an introduction. all the other postings are different areas I wanted to concentrate on such as the most popular procedures or how men felt about the whole thing.
I personally believe most women get it for themselves, and with the power of internet surveys, I found out i was mostly correct

Of course, this is only a small amount of women  who took my survey.
I also looked into my personal life and asked my friends and family why they did it. I paraphrased their answers and posted them on their own page.

Final Project: Boosting Mood - Pollution

Activists on Practice

The contamination of fresh water and sea water has transcended to the degradation of lakes, rivers, aquifers, oceans, and groundwater destroying and killing species that depend on them. Even though many campaigns have been done to increase awareness and help change that. We still have a long way to go.

Facts:
-1.4 billion pounds of trash per year enters the ocean
-  Over one million seabirds are killed by ocean pollution each year.
-  One hundred thousand sea mammals are killed in the ocean by pollution each year.
-  There is an island of garbage twice the size of Texas inside the Pacific Ocean, North Pacific Gyre off the coast of California is the largest oceanic garbage site in the entire world.

The Great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a collection of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean. Marine debris is litter that ends up in oceans, seas, and other large bodies of water. The entire Great Pacific Garbage Patch is bounded by the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. The amount of debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch accumulates because much of it is not biodegradable. Many plastics, for instance, do not wear down; they simply break into tinier and tinier pieces.

  1. About 80% of the debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch comes from land-based activities in North America and Asia.
  2. The remaining 20% of debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch comes from boaters, offshore oil rigs, and large cargo ships that dump or lose debris directly into the water.
  3. The seafloor beneath the Great Pacific Garbage Patch 70% of marine debris actually sinks to the bottom of the ocean.
  4. In the ocean, the sun breaks down these plastics into tinier and tinier pieces, a process known as photodegradation.
  5. Microplastic block sunlight from reaching plankton and algae below.

Wildlife is paying the price

Birds are starving, lack of food resources and the garbage accumulated at the shore and at the sea force them to eat what they find available. It is affecting the life of many animal species.

As birds many other animals are suffering the consequences of plastic waste.

Body Image- The Psalm 139:14 Project

Body Image is something that has been around since people could see. Negative or positive, people have been focused on how people will see them since the beginning of time. Growing up no one realized it, but we judged each other on how we looked at least five times per day. While there are positive critiques, it is always the negative that end up getting to a person. The negative comments seem to always be that ones that creep into your mind and make a home in there. They seem to be the comments that you remember on a good day at the most random and worst time to remember them. They seem to be the one to drive a person so far down they become depressed.

Girls self-esteem starts at the bright young age of nine years old. At nine years old I was already told unspeakable things from my own family and friends that put me into a depression. One artist who has inspired me and this project was Demi Lovato. Growing up she faced many of the same things that I went through as far as bullying and mental illness. She was bullied in school for being a bit chunkier than other girls her age, for me it was sort of the opposite. I was always too skinny and my chin was always the focal point of comments no matter where I went.

Despite woman like Lovato striving to be skinner, up until the 20th century it was considerably ideally beautiful to be a curvy or chunkier woman in America. Through paintings from artists like Peter Paul Ruben, they perfectly captured the plump and full figured women. It was not until the 1890s-1910s and development of the corset that the idea of a skinnier woman became the new view of beauty in America. Not a skinny woman, but skinner than those in the paintings back in the 17th century. After that it began a slow hill from a society of people who appreciated the art of the woman's to a society that saw us women as sex objects and just a body. Around the 1950s, curves started to make a comeback when Marylin Monroe became the icon for woman in America. It did not live long though because during the 1960s the "twiggy" figured women blasted curvy women out of the water's to this beginning the new beauty icon for the next few decades.

Lovato fell into a deep depression from the negativity surrounding her body that she eventually starting cutting her wrists out of the pain she was feeling. Her self-esteem was killed off at a young age. When she was only four years old she was already saying that she wanted to be skinnier. She felt as though everywhere she went that people were starring at her and her weight. Onto of cutting herself, this negativity led her to have suicidal thoughts at the age of seven. Also with struggling to become skinner, Lovato developed an eating disorder that last for years.

13 percent of girls ages 15-17 acknowledge that they have some kind of an eating disorder. Girls are feeling so desperate to look like the woman we see on TV that we are naming "People's Magazine's Most Sexiest Woman On Earth" and fail to see that there is not a single sexiest woman on earth, but that we all are sexy and beautiful in our own ways. By failing to see this they become more depressed and fall into developing an eating disorder that can physically harm them. Striving for that same appearance for herself, Lovato developed anorexia first then later on developed bulimia.

After receiving help at a rehabilitation center, Lovato began a journey of not only continuing to learn how to love herself for the first time, but to help other girls feel empowered to do the same. Recently she did a photo shoot nude in order to promote body positivity and refused to wear makeup and refused to have her photos retouched before being posted. Why did she do this? So she can show women that they can get to a place where they feel confident, and can leave all of their body issues behind. Where they are not ashamed of their own skin. She even started the #NoMakeUpMonday trend on Instagram in order to encourage natural beauty.

Why do we, as women, see other women in the public eye that are seen and said to us as beautiful and feel that we are not good enough and to be beautiful we need to try and look like these celebrities as much as we can? Words. Words are told to us and while they say "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" the words in these cases are the sticks and stones. Emotional scarring through words have a longer and more effective impact on young girls and woman. I'm 20 years old and I still fight day to day to not let lies I was told at 12 about my appearance effect me daily. One thing that does happen when you learn to accept and love yourself, it becomes easier. The pain and the words begin to lose their power and it becomes easier.

Now whenever I'm told not to wear form fitting skirts, you know what I do? I go out to buy a form fitting skirt. I'm told not to wear a bikini? I go out and buy three different kinds in order to wear them all summer long. This is where I pose the same challenge to my girls I teach. Through to Psalm 139:14 Project, I like to teach my girls it is all about empowerment and action. I tell my girls that when other people say for them not to be who they are, to wear their hair whoever they would like, to wear certain clothes that they would like or told they are not beautiful in any way, they ignore it. They drop it from their minds and listen to what people who know them and love them say. It is easier said than done, and it is a simple concept, but it is the most effective. They learn that for every one girl that says something demeaning to another girl, they will be the one to counter act that statement with a word of encouragement and empowerment.  "For I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14).
