Final Post

One morning I was sitting down eating breakfast before class, and this video scrolled up on my Facebook newsfeed. It absolutely infuriates me what people did to this dog. This video is what made me want to start my project about animal cruelty. I decided to create an Instagram page because I feel that everybody has an Instagram, and Instagram is arguably the most popular platform of social media right now.

I believed that Instagram would be the best choice for this project because I would be able to share various posters that I created as well as share other images from the internet that I believed was relevant to my project. I am not the best writer, and I feel that people are more inclined to look at a graphic than read a whole paper pertaining to the subject matter. For example, you are scrolling down on your Instagram page and someone posted a couple of paragraphs. Are you going to read them or are you more likely to stop and look at a picture?

My goal was to share images that were simple and easy to understand on the Instagram page (@stopthe_animalcruelty). I also wanted to keep all of my posters the same type of theme with the black/white and red so that people would recognize them as mine. My inspiration for the color scheme of my posters came from Barbara Krugger.

The most common form of animal abuse is neglect and abandonment. Neglect and abandonment accounts for 32% of reported cases of animal cruelty. The least common is burning which accounts for 2%. Below is a whole table showing various statistics of animal abuse.

Another big problem that people do not really know about is the animal cruelty that goes on in circuses. Animals in the circus are confined to cages or chains for nearly 96% of their entire lives. Circus animals also travel long distances for shows are are confined to a small box with no climate control and are forced to eat, sleep, and defecate in the box. These animals are also trained with a high force of discipline which are extremely cruelty. Forms of discipline are whipping, hitting, poking, and shocking with electrical prods. Here is a video in regards to cruelty of animals among circuses.

Elephants are born with tusks which are made out of ivory. Ivory is of high demand in the human population because it is used to make various types of goods. Due to elephants carrying a highly valuable material used it crafting items this is leading in the slaughtering of elephants. Here is a short article about elephant tusks and the poaching problem.
