Racism and Police Brutality
In my semester project I will be talking about how racism and police brutality was and still is a huge issue in today's society, but I will also mention one of hip hop's iconic figure, Tupac Shakur and legendary hip hop group NWA about how they had such a huge impact on society. Even though their music mentioned a lot about violence, gangs, drugs etc. But really, they gave the people a voice and the truth. Their art was a reflection of their reality. Although, this happened back in the late 80's and 90's, racism and police brutality is still occurring today. Tupac focused more on African American social issues while NWA focused on the cruel relationship between African Americans and the police at the time. Tupac and NWA were sending a message to the people to show them what was really going on with the world and their message is still relevant today.

I definitely think your project is a good one because this topic is very controversial! I also believe including recent event articles will help you learn more about whats going on so I provided some links for you:

I like the idea for this project, it deals with a lot of racial issues and inequality and its something that has to be presented in a non sugar coated manner.
ReplyDeleteI am working on a Black Lives Matter project, so our projects will overlap in some areas. While I am focusing on the movement itself, it's good to see that you're seeing the bigger celebrities and influences that are trying to draw attention to police brutality. It's a good start, but also give some attention to those who aren't universally known as much as Tupac or NWA.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really hot topic right now, I think it needs as much exposure as possible.
