The Cat Project

The Project is in Progress
The Homeless Cats

Info
The ancient Egyptians held cats in the highest esteem, the penalties for injuring or killing a cat were severe. They worshiped a Cat Goddess, often represented as half feline, half woman, whom they called Bastet. The main center for the worship of Bastet was in northern Egypt at the city of Bubastis.
Are people heartless or just plain stupid? We are on top of the food chain because of our intelligence; many people think that we are invincible and that other living creatures’ lives don’t matter. Jersey City is populated with cats, they are either abandoned, lost, ran away or populating within themselves. In my household, we happen to be animal lovers. We care so much about animals, we adopted a friendly cat who use to live in the streets and we created a feeding station in our backyard.
It’s amazing how smart these cats are, majority of them live in an abandoned shed in my neighborhood. They are usually lined up at a certain time for breakfast and lunch. We usually try to avoid giving them dinner because of the raccoons, they also happen to live in the abandoned shed but haven’t given us any issues. My little sister has gotten so attached to these cats, she decided to name each one of them. Each of their story is unique.

Each of these cats have a unique personality and amazes me. This project will be based on this small group of cats of my neighborhood. I am going to create a website and share each individuals cats’ stories with a picture of each one of them. I would also like the word to spread around the neighborhood and post a URL around so it could capture more followers.
When animal control get a hold of a cat – they go through a procedure and test – they are neutered and vaccinated – then their behavior is closely watched - only friendly cats get a second opportunity to find a home, cats who are savage get their ear cut and let back in the city to be on their own. They are homeless and afraid. It is hard to trust people. It’s also hard to find food and shelter especially in those cold winter nights, there are times that cats are frozen to death.
In the posts, I will not only be sharing about the homeless cats that like to hangout in my backyard but I would like to give friendly suggestions such as how to make your own feeding station. Also, homeless cats like to mark their territory, there are ways to keep that from happening, all of these suggestions will be posted in my soon to be made Wix for Jersey City Cats.

We want to have a large audience. Our target will not be only animal lovers. I want to give suggestions on how to help and care homeless animals for people who would like to help. Cats are very intelligent creatures, they need to be given a chance of life. Living in the city is not easy for us, imagine them, it’s a hundred times harder for them. This isn't only a mans world - there are other living creatures out there.

  1. I like this idea very much, maybe you can even include how to join the community of "cat activism" by showing ways people have protested against the process the abandoned cats go through and your own form of protest.

  2. I love this a lot and I'm a huge cat lover. It reminds me of an account I have seen on Instagram where it is a full Cat Cafe and they post pictures and profiles of cats who but they would highlight personalities of each cat. Maybe you could also record videos of the cats hanging out.
