Semester Project

For my semester Project I wanted to talk about Donald Trump and the fear and anger he is giving people with only his very few months in Office. For the sake of time and length of the Project I've decided to focus mainly on his attack on the Transgender public bathroom use. Before our last president had left office Obama had instructed public schools last May to let transgender students use the bathrooms matching their chosen gender identity, threatening to withhold funding for schools that did not comply. Transgender people hailed the step as victory for their civil rights. It was a huge leap into the future but as time went on we took a huge step backward when trump revoked it and argued that states and public schools should have the authority to make their own decisions without federal interference. This caused an uproar in the states although the order has been put n hold by a judge. Throughout this project I would like to do some research as to how this is affecting the students if it is and how angry people actually are with interviews and surveys presenting the results to the class and well as tumbler account promoting transgender bathrooms and putting together images showing its support.

  1. Not everyone is open-minded - but it's a great topic. How will you bring this issue to the community? Jersey City in general - it's very diverse but again not everyone is open-minded. A bathroom is a bathroom - in houses they don't have separate bathrooms. Another bathroom topic is that men don't have that changing station for their kids - men have the right to change their children's diapers in the the men's restroom. There are single fathers out there too because woman happen to die at child birth. Mention just the bathroom issues - just go with that topic.

  2. I agree with your project it is a very strong political issue we are currently experiencing. This is also a sensitive topic so it is important to be aware of what your portraying and expressing to the public.

  3. At the moment, I haven't seen an "all-gender" bathroom at NJCU, so maybe you can even push for that and give good reasoning with your project. Professor said that you could try to extend your project even further than the class itself, so I think this is something that is doable; consider it when you're doing this.

  4. I agree with Reuben's comment - moving this project forward I think it'd be great to see an effort in making NJCU as inclusive as it claims itself to be. I'm sure you can probably connect with the LGBTQ center at the school to put together some sort of event to spread awareness.

  5. I agree with everyones Idea and also even with this I don't know if you planned to throw together a petition to have an all gender restroom so we can have one open at the school?
