Project Proposal

Cosplay is a fun hobby but it is
known to cause some issues relating to body image in both men and women. There
is a lot of body shaming when it comes to cosplayers cosplaying certain
characters and a lot of times it is unavoidable because when cosplayers get
their picture taken by a photographer it is normally posted online where their
photo fall victim to bullying and harassment by trolls.
I plan to make a web comic series consisting of either a page or single images with messages that will reach out to the audience and I will post them on a social page such as Tumblr or Instagram so more audiences can reach it. I plan to make the art style simple and some pages may even be animated in gif form in hopes that it will appeal to a wider crowd.
This is a very good idea that should be addressed but just remember to explain what Cosplay is and maybe provide some concrete examples. I have unfortunately never heard of it and am not really sure exactly what it is, the links are very helpful though.
ReplyDeleteTotally true, this topic should be brought more to the light. My little sister happens to be a gamer girl but guys control the gaming world and can be so cruel. Conventions - people can be so mean and will judge you by your appearance. Which is wrong. You should totally mention how girls are often approached because of their sexy outfits are judged if their outfit is not on point. This is a very good topic and you can totally expand on it.
ReplyDeleteThis topic is definitely an interesting one, but perhaps focusing on the root of the cosplay problem- the result of the over-sexualization of characters in terms of exaggerative feminine and manly characteristics- can target your project better.
ReplyDeleteI think that talking about cosplay is both a broad and narrow area in terms of it as a whole and within a certain community. There are definitely some communities that don't necessarily agree with certain cosplays, but try to incorporate in your research anime events, PAX, and even local events.
ReplyDeleteMy sister cosplay's and she likes to wear the skin tight costumes, and when she goes to comic-con or anime-con I get worried that someone will say something negative to her about her costume, or that a guy will approach her with the wrong intentions. I believe that a girl should be able to cosplay as whatever character they want and not worry about people body-shaming her.
